The Dragons got the monkey off their back with a signature win Sunday vs rival Cigars.
Dalton Davenport dealt on the mound in his best performance of the year going 7+ and keeping the Cigars off balance all day. At one point mid game, Davenport retired 13 of 15 batters and struck out 5 along the way.
The Dragons offense struck early with a 2 spot in each of the first 3 innings. Matt Bishop's (.542) single and Danny Ungaro's (.321) double opened the game. Bishop scored on a Jack Bartlewski (.462, 11 RBI) groundout and Joey Cafario (.333) stayed hot with an RBI single to score Ungaro.
In the Dragons 2nd, Cody Tournear (.455) led off with a double and Jose Mendoza (.550) singled to start the inning. They scored on a fielders choice off the bat of John Malcolm (.333) and an RBI groundout from Jonathon Bergdorf.
In the Dragons 3rd, Bartlewski singled and Cafario homered for the 2nd straight game to go up 6-1.
The Cigars would get 1 in their 3rd to make it 6-2 and it would stay that way until the the Dragons pushed across 3 runs in the 8th on singles from Davenport and Caleb Autry followed by 3 HBP's in a row with Tournear reaching first and then back to back RBI on HBP from Mendoza and Malcolm.
Danny Ungaro came on relief going 1 1/3, retiring all 4 batters to get the save and a Dragons 9-6 victory.
With the win, the Dragons go to 5-3 on the season and will face the Cobb Angels next week looking to keep the momentum going.
