With a new team, the Dragons found their rhythm and chemistry early getting on the board with a 2 run 1st. Justin Clark led off with a walk, followed by a Danny Ungaro single, and Caleb Autry single. Dalton Davenport got an RBI groundout and Matt Bishop's 2 out RBI single put the Dragons ahead 2-1.
The Black Sox would tie the game at 2 apiece in the 4th before Danny Ungaro's 3rd hit of the game, a 2 run HR , put the Dragons up 4-2.
In the Dragons half of the 6th, a 1 out Bishop walk got things going, then Robby Switts (3 for 4 in his debut) singled, Jonathon Bergdorf (3 for 4) was next with the RBI single and Jose Mendoza cleared the bases with a huge 3 run homer to put the Dragons up 8-2.
The Sox would get one back in the 7th on a 2 out error to cut the lead down to 8-3.
In their 8th, a 2 out error opened the floodgates as 5 unearned runs tied the game, capped off by a 2 out, 2 run HR from Sam Worthen.
Not to be denied, the resilient Dragons quickly answered as the bottom of the order came through again. 3 singles in a row from Bishop, Switts, and another RBI from Bergdorf made it 9-8. A 2 strike SAC fly from Mendoza increased the lead to 10-8 and his 4th RBI on the day.
The Sox would get 1 more in their 9th but the Dragons held on to win 10-9 stranding the tying run on 2nd base to end the game.
John Malcomb got the start on the mound making his MSBL debut after a college career at Army.
Danny Ungaro went 2 2/3 allowing just a solo HR. Brett Washburn and Caleb Autry bridged the gap mid game, both tossing a scoreless inning before giving way to Dalton Davenport who pitched through some tough luck and shaky defense. Davenport picked up the win in relief with 1 earned run.
The Dragons improved to an astounding 28-3 record on opening day. With a week off for Easter, play will resume on 4/12 with a showdown against the Cobb Angels. The game will be played at Lakeside HS starting at 11am.
