Dragons Make It Interesting Before Cigars Pull Away 8-3
8/24/2025

The Dragons were one hit away several times and stranded 10 in the 7 inning game, leaving the bases loaded twice. Give credit to Cigars starter, Matthew Powell, who went the distance and stymied the Dragons lineup early on.

Trailing 3-0 in the Dragons 4th, Caleb Autry doubled with 2 out and Matt Bishop drove him in to cut the lead to 3-1. A walk to Tyler Moore and a Julian Sewell single loaded them up but the Dragons couldn't capitalize.

The Cigars added on in the 5th and in the Dragons 6th, a leadoff single from Edikson Zaro started the inning and Autry hit a screaming liner to 2nd for the 1st out. Matt Bishop doubled and Tyler Moore singled home 2 runs to cut the lead to 4-3. With Moore on 2nd and 2 outs, Warner Adcock laced one up the middle on a line that caught Powells glove to retire the side. An unfortunate break for the Dragons and Adcock.

The Cigars put 4 runs on the board in their 6th and the game was essentially out of reach but the Dragons never say die made it interesting loading the bases with the tying run on deck but it wasn't meant to be today.

The Cigars prevailed, playing great defense and Powell pitched as well as we've seen him. They essentially clinched the 1 seed and we are hopeful to see them 2-3 times in the playoffs.

The Dragons will makeup a rainout with the Squeaks on Saturday at Lakeside HS, at 11am on 8/30.
