Dragons Pull Away from Black Sox Late 16-8
7/13/2025

The Dragons traveled to Brookwood HS to play visitor to our friendly rival Black Sox. Caleb Autry (.478) got the Dragons on the board in the 1st with a RBI double off the left field wall. Tyler Moore (.318)  walked to load the bases and Warner Adcock (.350) delivered an oppo scorcher to the left center gap scoring 3 with a triple and the Dragons led 4-0.

The comfort didn't last long when the Sox answered with a 4 hit inning and combined with some sloppy defense, 5 runs scored and the Sox led 5-4 .

The Dragons would get one run back on a Stef Lollar bases loaded walk, however, the Sox quickly answered again with 3 more hits and 2 more runs to lead 7-5.

It would stay that way until the Dragons 5th when Justin Clark (.486) doubled to start the inning, Lollar was hit by a pitch and Edikson Zaro (.500) singled to load the bases. Caleb Autry stayed red hot with an RBI single to cut the lead to 7-6. A wild pitch scored Lollar to tie the game and Matt Bishop added another RBI single to take an 8-7 lead.

Again, the Sox answered with a leadoff triple and when the throw to the infield skipped away, the run scored to tie it at 8 but Matt Bishop would calm things on the mound to get out of the inning.

In the Dragons 6th, the wheels came off for the Sox after a walk and hit by pitch with one out, Courtney Jones (CJ) hammered one to deep left that kept going and going off the wall for an RBI double and Dragons lead again. Then Clark singled home 2 more, followed by a Lollar (.364) RBI single, Zaro single and suddenly 5 runs were in for a 13-8 Dragons lead.

Lastly, Julian Sewell hit a bases loaded triple in the 7th to extend the lead to 16-8 and put the game away.

The real story for the Dragons was Matt Bishop on the mound throwing 5 innings in relief, allowing just the 1 unearned run, walked only 1 and scattered 6 hits. He was in control the whole game with the only somewhat threat being back to back singles to start the 7th but an infield popup, a flyout to center and a strikeout to finish off the game ended any threat. Bish was outstanding and picked up his 2nd win of the year.

The Dragons moved to 8-2, now riding a 7 win streak. Quality at bats up and down the lineup. We gotta clean up the defense but we've found ways to win. There is still much more room for improvement but things are clicking and we are having fun riding the wave.

Next week, the Dragons will play a doubleheader squaring off vs the Magic and Blue Sox.
