Phantoms at Dragons - 10am, Lakeside HS, 5/22
For the 2nd game in a row the Dragons walked it off in the last inning. This time, it was a 3 run inning to cap of the 10-9 win vs a solid 18+ Phantoms team.
The Dragons laundry service and wake up calls were tardy today so we got off to a rough start. The Phantoms put 4 on the board to start the game with 4 hits in a row capped off with a 3 run HR by Scott MacGillivray.
The Dragons responded with a 4 run 1st of our own to tie it up. Justin Clark got things started with a single, followed by a Stef Lollar single. Then a HBP, out, walk, walk, out and 2 out error tied the game.
It would stay that way until the 4th when the Phantoms put up 2 runs, 1 earned, to take a 6-4 lead.
The Dragons would get one of those back in the 4th when the bottom of the order made some noise. A walk to Carl Gennaro and Tarik Frelow hit by pitch put runners on 1st and 2nd when Julian Sewell singled to cut the lead to 6-5.
Stef Lollar came on in relief of starter, Cody Tournear, and retired the first 9 batters he faced. The Dragons took the lead in the bottom of the 7th when Tyler Moore started with a single, and with 1 out, Hector Ramirez singled. That set the stage for Warner Adcock, who barrelled a fastball for an RBI single. Carl Gennaro would hit a SAC fly to take the lead, 7-6.
We went to the 8th, up 1 and time quickly running out.
A 1 out single and a 2 out walk put runners at 1st and 2nd and the Lollar battling. Back to back errors allowed 3 runs to score and suddenly the Dragons found themselves in a 2 run hole with our last at bat coming up.
As dejected as we were, we knew it wasn't over and a quiet confidence knew we could make it interesting. An incredible 10 pitch at bat from Julian Sewell got things started as he fouled off pitch after pitch and coaxed a leadoff walk. Justin Clark added his 3rd hit of the day and Stef Lollar drilled a first pitch fastball to right and off the wall to score 2 and tie the game with a 2 run double. Matt Bishop then battled at the plate before getting hit with a 2-2 pitch. Hector Ramirez walked on a 3-2 pitch in another great AB and the game ended when Warner Adcock was hit by a pitch for his 3 RBI on the day and the walkoff game winner, 10-9.
The Dragons are now riding a 4 game win streak and are set to square off vs the rival Cigars next week, 12:30pm at Shamrock.
Go Dragons!
