In a Year That's Been so Improbable, the Impossible Has Happened, Dragons 13-12 Over the Squeaks
6/1/2025

This was a WILD one! Not your typical Dragons Sunday to say the least. Justin Clark (.455) got things going with a 2 run HR in the 1st. Clark would go on to have 3 hits and 5 RBI for a team leading 10 after just 6 games.

The Dragons would take that lead til to the 3rd when the Squeaks got to starter, Brett Washburn, with a grand slam and tacked on one more for a 5-2 lead.

Stef Lollar would come on to calm the waters and throw 3 scoreless thru 6. The Dragons bats got started with a Courtney Jones (CJ) walk, Lollar hit by pitch, and RBI infield single from Clark. An error scored another and Matt Bishop delivered an RBI single to tie the game at 5 in the 6th.

In the Squeaks 7th, back to back singles got the inning going and the Dragons had 2 errors that led to 2 runs and the Squeaks took a 7-5 lead.

The Dragons answered with a 7 run 7th behind a 2 RBI single from Clark, RBI single from Bishop, RBI double from Hector Ramirez, and SAC fly from Cody Tournear and the Dragons led 12-7.

Then the crazy happened, combined with the improbable. Earlier, on the grand slam allowed by Washburn, Matt Bishops truck in LF took the brunt of it shattering the windshield.

Bishop, now on to pitch, allowed one unearned run to score before a game tying grand slam (2nd of the game). The pitch prior went foul and shattered Washburn's back window. Payback is fair game.

After the Dragons left 2 runners on in the 8th the time limit was hit but by rule, we were given 1 more inning.

Cody Tournear got the ball for the 9th and after 2 singles and a contraversial walk, the bases were loaded with no outs. Tournear got a strikeout, followed by a groundball down the 3rd base line, Bishop fielded and made a great play at the plate to get the force out but not without contraversy. Bishop did not step on the bag at 3rd, and subsequently made a great throw home but initially the runner was ruled safe. After a bit a discussion it was determined that it was indeed a forceout at home and 2 were out with the bases loaded. The next batter took a curve in the dirt where Dragons catcher, Jose Mendoza, made a great block and the ball kicked away about 10 feet. The Squeaks runner froze, thinking there was room to score, and Mendoza was able to get him out in a short rundown where Bishop applied the tag to end the inning and escape a lot of potential damage.

In the Dragons 9th, Edikson Zaro (.455), led off with a base hit. Bishop was hit by a pitch to put runners and 1st and 2nd. After a strikeout, 1 out, Cody Tournear came to the plate and delivered a blast that cleared the outfield over center field for a walkoff RBI game winning double!

This wild one featured 4 lead changes and 2 ties. Tournear also picked up the win in relief and the Dragons moved to 4-2. The Squeaks swept the Dragons last season so this was a big win to keep momentum for the '25 season. The Dragons are looking to keep things going next week vs a solid 18+ Blue Sox, 10am, Lakeside.
