The Atlanta Dragons went down to the Fall Classic and had an impressive showing going 3-1 in pool play, beating the defending champs, Cleveland Steves, 8-6 in the opener with Chris Haggard getting the win in relief.
Game 2 saw the the Dragons play another recent defending champ, the Tampa Bombers in Roger Dean Stadium, home of the Cardinals and Marlins. Sean Lennox dealt a complete game gem for a 2-1 win.
Game 3 was a doozy. The Dragons lost 4-3 in 10 innings vs the Coral Gables A's.
Game 4, the Dragons came out with a 6 run 1st inning and Brett Washburn threw the final 7 innnings to hang on for a 12-9 win.
The Dragons received the 2 seed and were upended by the Steve's 8-5 in the final 4.
Standout performers:
Glenn Harbin was spectacular, hitting .667 with 4 doubles, a HR, and 10 RBI in 5 games.
Matt Costello hit .500, led the team with 6 runs scored, and knocked in 4.
Julian Madrid hit .500 and had 4 RBI and Brendan Pilger hit .471.
Dan Lockwood took advantage of his opportunities and hit .444 and added a dimension of speed the Dragons were looking for as well as play great defense in the outfield.
Sean Lennox went 9 innings and only allowed 1 run in his complete game outing vs the 2016 Champion, Tampa Bombers.
Overall, a very good showing but disappointing end. Looking forward to Myrtle Beach in October 2019 and the Fall Classic in FL in November 2019.
